"How can I make a difference? Is the world a better place because I was in it? Can I get others to follow my example?"
These are some of the questions that Mr. Leonard Lauder, CEO of @TheEstéeLauderCompaniesInc., asked himself in his book, “The company I keep". Like him, I am a person who convinces others to tear down walls. If there is something that needs to be done and no one is willing to do it, I step forward. If there is a good idea that needs help, I jump on it to look for partners to make it possible. By leading by example, I can help spread the word and encourage others to do the same. This is and has been my purpose in life. And that is why I Co-founded together with Mamen Sánchez, FoundSummit.org, the largest international #event around #philanthropy and projects with an #impact that will be held in Madrid on October 25-26: speakers, elevator pitches, expo, workshops,… discussion panels. We are “changemakers” or, as Leonard Lauder say, “transformative philanthropists”. For all these reasons I dare to ask you all to join and help us make the FoundSummit a reality.Haz clic aquí para editar.

#impact Letters from anywhere in our world. (for those who still doubt the importance of #philanthropy) If they don't do it, who will? Bébédjia, February 18, 2023 Paula Peña writes from Chad Patron and development cooperation manager Foundation "El Compromiso" - project: enganCHADos "The lesser evil. While still a teenager, her uncles (since she was an orphan) decided who she had to marry. By giving her away in marriage, they ensured a regular income for the husband. The man she was married to was HIV-positive, and not only did he father her a child, he infected both of them. She sought medical help, and thus began her journey with the missionary Daughters of the Risen Christ, responsible for the Medical and Social Psychological Support Center (APMS) for AIDS patients in this corner of the world. Both she and her son receive treatment and follow-up at her center. When her first husband died of illness, her uncles married her off again (there is no easier way to keep getting paid without working), this time with an "old man" who already had 3 or 4 other wives, much older than her. Despite her beauty, her character and her youth, she was never the old man's favorite (thank God). The main woman lives in the capital and the rest are scattered throughout the country. The husband spent most of his time with one of the other women, but when he returned to Bébédjia, he would rape her and abandon her again, without ensuring her support or that of her first husband's son. Things did not change when, as a result of those violations, she began to have children. She has up to six of this husband, who continues without making sure that they have the means to subsist. The missionaries gave her a job so she could take care of her growing brood. And, thanks to the control that they have been doing of their disease, the rest of their children are not infected. The children, who are beautiful and smiling, belong to the sponsorship program of the "Study in Chad" project of our foundation. Each of her children goes to a good school and eats boule with sauce and meat or fish every day at APMS. They attend reinforcement classes on Wednesdays and during the vacation period they continue to train. The eldest son left the program a couple of years ago and went to work in the market. She helps her mother and siblings by buying them things they need (food, soap, clothes, a rug...) but she doesn't give her money because if her stepfather comes home, in addition to raping her, he will take it from her. Periods without a husband are the best. She has the support of the sisters, she has a job and his children go to school and are fed). She lives in a tiny room with the 7, but it's enough for her. The other women and the more than thirty half-siblings of their children are faring better. The man distributes his possessions while he is alive to make sure that the other families do well when he is not around. She hates him. However, the old man's health worries her a lot. Why...? Why should she fear that the man who rapes her and then abandons her will finally go to hell? It is simple. Since they are Muslims, if the creep dies, she will have to remain locked in the “room” where she lives, without changing her clothes for 4 months. You will not be able to wash, nor will you be able to leave the shack to relieve yourself, to go to the market or to work during the period of mourning. In cases where there is no one who can support the family (your case), the time of confinement can be reduced but, in any case, you must remain self-abducted for a full 40 days and, subsequently and until you have completed 4 full months, You can only leave to go to work and return directly. But the drama does not end here. Once the 4 months have elapsed and since she is still very young and fertile, her uncles will dispose of her life again and will remarry her to another man who pays well. And if that man does not live in Bébédjia, she will have to leave. You will stop working and drop out of HIV monitoring. And with her will leave her 6 youngest children who will inevitably lose the possibility of continuing to study in good schools and eat every day because they will always be the children of another and their mother, the woman stigmatized for being HIV-positive. So, even if he doesn't deserve it, may the old man live many more years. May he stay in the capital with his favorite woman and may his health prevent him from making the journey to Bébédjia. May he live at least long enough for this beautiful woman to stop being so young and profitable." #philantropy #changemakers #charity To start with, we have interviewed to the incredible ChatBot GPT about philantropy. This ChatBot is being so well known as provider of solutions for everybody, so i thought it could provide solutions to the issues of the world so we don't have to need good-hearted people or philanthropists.
FoundSummit (we): - Hi GPT. I would like to interview you about philantropy, may I? ChatBot GPT: - Hello! I am an AI language model developed by OpenAI, not a person or entity capable of being interviewed. However, I'll do my best to assist you with any questions or information you need! What would you like to know? FoundSummit (we): - Ok. Lets begin. We are all aware that the world is facing serious problems, that economic and human resources are needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Could governments solve all our needs and problems that we as society face without the need for philanthropists? ChatBot GPT: - It is possible that governments can solve many of the problems and needs of society, but this is not always the case. Government resources are often limited, and bureaucracy can make it difficult to address issues quickly and effectively. In addition, political priorities can change depending on the leaders in power, and funding for certain programs or initiatives can be cut or eliminated. This is where philanthropy can play an important role. Philanthropists are often able to act more quickly and flexibly than governments, and can direct their resources to the areas and causes they are most passionate about. They can provide funding for innovative and experimental programs that may not receive government funding, and can help to fill gaps in services or support for underserved populations... FoundSummit (we): - And what about you? couldnt you be the one solving the issues we all face? ChatBot GPT: - As an AI language model, I am a tool that can provide information and assist in problem-solving, but I cannot single-handedly solve all the issues that society faces. My capabilities are limited to processing and analyzing data, providing information and insights, and assisting with tasks such as language translation, content creation, and research. FoundSummit (we): - I would like to ask you what means the world "philantropy" to you? ChatBot GPT: - Philanthropy refers to the act of giving money, time, or resources to help improve the well-being of others, especially those in need. It is often motivated by a desire to give back to the community, to make a positive difference in the world, or to address social issues and problems. Philanthropy can take many forms, from individual donations to charitable organizations, to large-scale philanthropic initiatives undertaken by foundations or corporations. The concept of philanthropy is rooted in the idea of using one's resources to create a better world for all. FoundSummit (we): - And what means to be a philantropist? ChatBot GPT: - A philanthropist is a person who practices philanthropy, or the act of giving money, time, or resources to help improve the well-being of others, especially those in need. Philanthropists are motivated by a desire to make a positive difference in the world and to address social issues and problems. They may donate money to charitable organizations, start their own foundations, or support causes that they are passionate about. The term can also be used to describe individuals who are known for their charitable giving, such as wealthy individuals who give substantial amounts of money to support various causes. However, philanthropy is not limited to the wealthy and can be practiced by anyone who wants to give back and make a positive impact on their community and the world. FoundSummit (we): - How our world with no philantropist would be? ChatBot GPT: - If there were no philanthropists, the world would likely be a much different place. Philanthropy has played a crucial role in addressing many of the world's most pressing social, cultural, and economic issues, from poverty and hunger, to education and the arts, to medical research and disaster relief. Philanthropy has provided resources, support, and funding for organizations that work to make the world a better place, and has helped to spur innovation and progress in a variety of fields. Without philanthropists, many of these organizations and initiatives would struggle to survive, and the problems they work to solve would go unaddressed. There would be fewer resources available to help those in need, and many important initiatives aimed at improving the world would never get off the ground. It's important to note that philanthropy is not the only way to make a positive impact in the world, and there are many other important actors, such as government and the private sector, who play important roles in addressing social issues and making the world a better place. However, philanthropy has a unique role to play, and its absence would certainly be felt in many different ways. FoundSummit (we): - So, goverments and AI cannot solve the issues you mentioned by themselves and still need philantropists? ChatBot GPT: - Yes, that's correct. While governments and AI can certainly play an important role in addressing social and economic issues, they cannot solve these problems by themselves. Philanthropy is also a crucial component of creating positive change and progress in society. Philanthropists can provide the financial resources needed to support research, education, healthcare, and other initiatives that help to address pressing social issues. They can also contribute their time, expertise, and social capital to promote and advance important causes. Furthermore, philanthropists can help to fill gaps in services or support for underserved populations, and can act more quickly and flexibly than governments in responding to emerging issues and crises. Overall, philanthropy is a vital component of creating a more just and equitable society, and complements the efforts of governments and AI to address the many challenges we face as a global community. FoundSummit (we): - So, why do you think that Latin countries are so critical of the philanthropic actions carried out by some people making large donations to different causes? ChatBot GPT: - There are likely many reasons why some Latin countries may be critical of philanthropic actions carried out by individuals or organizations making large donations to different causes. Some people may view philanthropy with suspicion or skepticism, particularly if they see it as a way for wealthy individuals to exercise undue influence over social and political issues. In addition, there may be concerns about the effectiveness and accountability of philanthropic initiatives, particularly if they are carried out by private individuals or organizations rather than government agencies. Some people may worry that philanthropic initiatives may be driven by individual or corporate interests, rather than the needs and priorities of the communities they are meant to serve. There may also be concerns about the distribution of wealth and resources in society, particularly if philanthropic initiatives are seen as a way for wealthy individuals to alleviate their own guilt or to absolve themselves of responsibility for larger social and economic issues. However, it's important to recognize that philanthropy can play an important role in addressing social and economic issues, particularly in areas where government resources may be limited or where innovative and experimental programs are needed. By working together with governments and other stakeholders, philanthropists and philanthropic organizations can help to create positive change and progress in society. FoundSummit (we): - What would you say to those human beings who criticize philanthropic activities? ChatBot GPT: - To those who criticize philanthropic activities, I would say that it is important to recognize the important role that philanthropy can play in creating positive change and progress in society. While philanthropy is not a panacea for all social and economic problems, it can be an important complement to government efforts and a powerful force for good. Philanthropy can provide the resources needed to support research, education, healthcare, and other initiatives that help to address pressing social issues. It can also help to fill gaps in services or support for underserved populations, and can act more quickly and flexibly than governments in responding to emerging issues and crises. However, it is also important to ensure that philanthropic initiatives are transparent, accountable, and effective, and that they are aligned with the needs and priorities of the communities they are meant to serve. By working together with governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders, philanthropists and philanthropic organizations can help to create sustainable and equitable solutions to the many challenges we face as a global community. FoundSummit (we): - And what would you say to those human beings who criticize philanthropic activities if they are part of goverments? ChatBot GPT: - If individuals who are part of government criticize philanthropic activities, it's important to recognize that governments and philanthropic organizations have different roles to play in addressing social and economic issues. While governments have a responsibility to provide public goods and services and to regulate markets, philanthropy can complement these efforts by supporting innovative and experimental programs, filling gaps in services, and responding quickly to emerging issues and crises. However, it's also important to ensure that philanthropic initiatives are transparent, accountable, and effective, and that they are aligned with the needs and priorities of the communities they are meant to serve. Governments can play an important role in regulating philanthropy and ensuring that it is directed towards public goods and services that benefit society as a whole. Ultimately, the key is to work together and to recognize the different roles that governments and philanthropic organizations can play in creating positive change and progress in society. By fostering partnerships and collaborations between governments, philanthropists, and civil society organizations, we can create more sustainable and equitable solutions to the many challenges we face as a global community. FoundSummit (we): - One last question, could you name some philanthropists who, despite everything they did, have not obtained much social recognition or have benn criticized? ChatBot GPT:
FoundSummit (we): - Thank you very much for you time. #philanthropy #makingadifference #impact |
